DUBLIN: An Indian company acquires Procter & Gamble (P&G) in County Kildare, which has about 400 employees.
The company, which operates in Newbridge, was sold to the Indian company Mapaex. However, SIPTU said the union had promised to retain all employees.
The employees were informed about the sale of the company yesterday morning. SIPTU Organiser Jim Fuery said the union was notified of the sale yesterday and that the company had indicated it would make the transfer next year.
Meanwhile, talks between the company and the union will begin on December 15 to ensure job security at the time of the transfer of the company. SIPTU represents about 280 employees in the company.
Mr. Fuery said the transfer is part of an expansion of the company’s operations at the corporate level. The company has also announced that it will continue to operate in Newbridge under Mapaex.
Mr. Fuery said that he expects the current terms and conditions, including current pension rights, to remain in place when the institution is transferred.
The P&G plant in Newbridge was established in 1984 to manufacture toothbrushes and dental floss for local consumers.
Meanwhile, a P&G spokesman said that even if Mapaex Health & Personal Care Ireland acquired P&G, Oral Care and Braun products will continue to be supplied from Newbridge.
“The deal is expected to close within calendar year 2021, subject to the completion of the required Information and Consultation with employees,” the spokesperson said.
At the same time, he said, the company’s office in Dublin would remain unchanged.
