Dublin: A record 140,457 students have begun sitting the Leaving Certificate, Junior Cycle, and other state exams, according to the State Examinations Commission (SEC). The milestone reflects a 3% increase from last year, attributed to demographic growth.
This year, 61,632 candidates are sitting the Leaving Certificate, 4,512 are taking the Leaving Certificate Applied, and 74,313 are enrolled in the Junior Cycle exams.
Education Minister Helen McEntee extended her best wishes, acknowledging the years of effort behind each student’s journey and urging students to do their best during the stressful exam period.
Exams are being held at over 800 centres nationwide, supported by the secure distribution of approximately four million exam papers. The exams will run until June 24 (Leaving Cert), June 12 (LCA), and June 16 (Junior Cycle).
The SEC confirmed that a post-marking adjustment will be applied to align 2025 results with the average levels seen between 2020 and 2021. Results for the Leaving Cert and LCA will be released on August 22.
