At auction, the world’s most valuable Harry Potter books

Following the sale of a flawless first edition copy of J. K. Rowling’s first novel, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” for £69,000 ($85,118, €80,228) in March, a more obscure edition went under the hammer on Friday, December 16, 2022. The author, J.K. Rowling, autographed and dedicated the 15th anniversary edition of the Harry Potter debut, which was released a decade ago, to 15 competition winners.

Publisher Bloomsbury launched a nationwide competition in 2012 to find the UK’s “biggest Harry Potter fan,” with entries invited to make their case in 50 words. Chloe Esslemont, age 16, was the lucky winner of the leather-bound version.

Her book was auctioned off for £8,000 in the United Kingdom.
