Dublin: Ballincollig, Co. Cork, has been awarded Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2024, as well as Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre. Over 600 TidyTowns volunteers gathered at the SuperValu TidyTowns awards ceremony at Dublin’s Croke Park, with additional viewers joining online. This year, 904 towns competed, showcasing widespread interest in the competition, which has been running since 1958.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, presented awards including the Young Person in TidyTowns to Ballyphehane, Co. Cork, and the Town Centre First National Award to Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, for their work on vacancy and dereliction in line with the government’s Town Centre First policy.
Minister Humphreys congratulated Ballincollig for exemplifying innovation, sustainability, and community spirit. Other top awards went to Ballinahown, Co. Westmeath, as Ireland’s tidiest village; Blackrock, Co. Louth, as tidiest small town; and Westport, Co. Mayo, as tidiest large town.
