Bus Éireann recruiting 150 new drivers

DUBLIN: Bus Éireann is recruiting 150 new drivers to avoid service disruptions. The state-owned transport company has already recruited 100 new drivers and is looking to expand its workforce in full-time, part-time and seasonal positions. 2.5% of trips were cancelled last week due to staff shortages.

Dermot O’Leary, general secretary of the National Bus and Railworkers Union (NBRU), said that staff recruitment and retention is currently a problem in the transport sector.

He also demanded that the public transport forum decided earlier by the government should be implemented. The cancellation of bus services on Sunday caused a lot of inconvenience to the passengers.
