“Bus-Rail Fares Increased on Select Routes; LEAP Card Passengers to Receive Additional Concessions”

Dublin: The National Transport Authority (NTA) has announced its decision to implement fare adjustments on specific routes across the country, effective by the end of this year. Notably, Dublin journeys within a 90-minute timeframe and standard bus fares in Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Waterford cities will maintain a discounted rate of €1.35. The move is seen as part of measures to alleviate the impact of fare increases.

Continuation of Dublin Discounted Fares
Adults will retain the option to travel within Dublin for €2 during a designated hour and a half-time slot. The NTA had introduced the Leap Card travel system in 2022, allowing Dublin travel at a reduced rate. The card’s usage covered Dublin Bus, Luas, DART, Commuter Rail, and Go-Ahead Ireland services, and the NTA has confirmed an extension of its validity.

Extended Travel Zones and Introduction of ‘All-Mode’ Ticket
The NTA has expanded the Dublin City Zone to a 23-km radius and the Dublin Commuter Zone to 50 km, encompassing towns like Drogheda, Navan, Trim, Enfield, Clane, Prosperous, Newbridge, Kildare, Greystones, and Wicklow.

Additionally, the NTA has introduced a new ‘All-Mode’ ticket priced at €96 per month and €960 annually. This ticket provides unlimited access to Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead Ireland, Luas, and Irish Rail services, offering passengers a 38% saving compared to current fares.

Leap Card Costs and Fare Caps
The weekly Leap Card fare for all operators within the Dublin City Zone will be capped at €24. For regular commuters in the Dublin Commuter Zone, weekly and monthly ticket prices will vary based on the journey’s distance.

Fare Adjustments and Examples
While standard bus fares in Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Waterford will remain at a discounted rate of €1.35, there will be fare increases on certain routes. For instance, the Cavan-Dublin bus service ticket price will rise from €9.45 to €11.40 (21%), Rathoth-Ashbourne bus service fare will increase by 30%, and the Kilcock-Dublin fare will increase from €3.08 to €3.70. However, rail fares for the Bray Daly-Greystones route will see a reduction from €2 to €2.30.
