COVID-19: 16 deaths and 543 new cases confirmed yesterday

DUBLIN: The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) reports that 543 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed yesterday in Ireland.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 226,358.

The Health Department has confirmed that 16 more people died as a result of COVID-19. With this, the death toll from Coronavirus now stands at 4,535.

Of these, three deaths occurred in March, 12 in February and one in January. The median age of those who died was 88 years and the age range was between 59 and 96.

Of the cases notified, 269 were men and 271 were women. 73% were under 45 years of age and the median age was 29 years old.

235 cases were registered in Dublin, 50 in Kildare, 39 in Donegal, 31 in Meath, 28 in Galway and the remaining 160 cases were spread across 20 other counties.

As of yesterday morning, 340 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised, with 85 in ICU.

As of 10 March, 570,391 doses of the vaccine were administered in Ireland. Of these, 409,662 people received their first dose and 160,729 received their second dose.
