Covid-19: One further death and 211 new cases confirmed in Ireland

The number of Covid cases per day in Ireland has crossed 200 again. Today, 211 new cases of coronavirus and one further death have been confirmed in the country.

This brings the total number of Covid cases in Ireland to 30,571. The death toll is 1,781.

Of the new cases confirmed today:

● Some 100 were men while 108

● 73% are under 45 years of age

● 28% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case

● 43 have been identified as community transmission

With 121 cases, Dublin has again recorded the highest number of cases in the country.

The remaining cases were reported in: 17 people in Louth, 10 in Limerick, 8 in Cork, 7 in Westmeath and Wicklow, 6 in Laois and 5 in Donegal and Galway.

The rest 24 cases are in Carlow, Clare, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Meath, Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary, and Waterford.

Cases in other counties in Ireland, including Limerick, are declining to some extent. But the steady rise in cases in the capital is a cause for concern.

“While we are seeing a continued increase in cases, particularly in Dublin, this is at least partly due to the willingness of people to heed our core messages around knowing the symptoms and coming forward promptly for testing,” Acting CMO, Dr. Ronan Glynn said this evening.

He said that this would prevent the community transmission of the virus.

“This weekend, please limit your social contacts, especially visitors to your home. Avoid crowds, keep your distance from others and wear a face covering where appropriate.”

The country has not yet achieved a consistency in the number of Covid cases. So in the days to come, people will have to abide Covid rules and regulations. It remains to be seen in the coming days what the new government regulations will be.
