Covid Update: 46 new Covid deaths and 3,086 more cases reported

The Department of Health reported 46 more Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland this evening. An additional 3,086 more cases of the coronavirus was also reported.

Now there are 2,397 Covid-related deaths in Ireland totally and a total of 155,591 confirmed cases.

These new cases comes as the number of patients with coronavirus being treated in intensive care units has passed the peak figure reached in the first wave of the pandemic.

Within the last 24 hours, there were 128 new hospitalisations and with this the total number of patients receiving treatment became 1,692.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan said that we are “seeing the effect of the recent surge of infections” reflected in the number of deaths reported.

He also added that these numbers will be spiking up for some more days. He also requested people to stay within their house.

1,425 of the cases reported today are men, with 1,642 also testing positive. 54% are under 45 years of age, and the median age is 42 years old.

604 of the cases are in Galway, with 574 in Dublin, 466 in Mayo, 187 in Cork and 138 in Limerick. The remaining 1,117 cases are spread across all other counties.
