Death threat against Leo Varadkar; security measures have been strengthened
DUBLIN: Gardai has confirmed that there have been several threats against the Tánaiste in recent weeks. Following this, Varadkar has been placed under the protection of the Special Detective Unit (SDU).
Former Prime Minister Leo Varadkar is also expected to take over as Prime Minister of Ireland in December 2022.
Two years ago, Leo Varadkar was accused of leaking a secret government document to a friend. Gardai had revealed that a criminal case was being investigated in connection with the incident.
A controversy also erupted last year when a young woman unexpectedly poured tea on Varadkar’s face during an interview in a Dublin park.
According to reports, Varadkar does not have the support of the party as before.
It is alleged that Garda’s 24-hour protection was a ploy by some to thwart Varadkar’s moves.
