Decathlon is looking to expand into a number of counties, including Galway

Decathlon, the sports retail giant, is planning to expand into a number of counties, including Galway.

The French-owned company already has one store in Dublin and has stated plans to open another in Limerick next year. Decathlon plans to establish more stores in Galway, Cork, Waterford, and Dublin as a result of the success of the Dublin location. According to new financial statements for Decathlon Sports Ireland Ltd., revenues more than doubled to €37.22 million last year.

Decathlon revealed its intentions to construct a second shop in Limerick earlier this year after signing a 25-year lease for premises at Limerick’s Parkway Retail Park. It will follow the same format as its Ballymun store, with 5,000 square metres of retail space catering to 70 sports.

On the firm’s future plans, the directors state: “In April 2022, the opening of a new store located in Limerick in 2023 was officially announced.”
