EU continues to help coronavirus-hit India; Ambassador of EU to India says focus is on oxygen and drugs supplies

The European Union countries continue to assist India, which is suffering from the second wave of the corona virus pandemic.

Ambassador of European Union to India, Ugo Astuto said that flights with assistance from Ireland, Belgium, France, Germany, and Italy have been arriving in recent days. Mr. Astuto also said that another flight from Ireland is expected today.

The Ambassador said yesterday that their current focus is on supplying oxygen and related equipment, ventilators and antiviral drugs such as Remdesivir. He also hopes that more supplies will arrive in the coming days.

He said the EU is in regular contact with the Indian government and that they are now concentrating on providing oxygen and drugs. “We are in touch with the Indian government, as of now we are focusing on Oxygen and drugs,” he said.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 situation in India remains alarming. India recorded 3,57,229 new COVID-19 cases and 3,449 deaths in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of coronavirus infections in the country to more than 20 million and death toll to 222,408.
