Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has passed away at the age of 79

Dublin: Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy died in the early hours of Tuesday at the age of 79. According to reports, the senior Congress leader died at 4:25 a.m. at a private hospital in Bengaluru while receiving cancer treatment. As a gesture of respect for the former chief minister, the Kerala government has declared Tuesday a public holiday, along with two days of mourning.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the passing of the former Kerala Chief Minister. “In the passing away of Shri Oommen Chandy Ji, we have lost a humble and dedicated leader who devoted his life to public service and worked towards the progress of Kerala…”

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to Chandy through Twitter, stating: “Oommen Chandy ji was an exemplary grassroots Congress leader. He will be remembered for his lifelong service to the people of Kerala. We will miss him dearly. Much love and condolences to all his loved ones.”

President M.M. Linkwinstar (OICC Ireland) has announced that OICC Ireland is deeply saddened by the death of former Kerala Chief Minister and undisputed Congress leader Oommen Chandy. He recalled being a leader who taught people to work for the greater good of the country.

He described Oommen Chandy as a great role model who has given his entire life for his country.
