Former US President Donald Trump has been acquitted

WASHINGTON: Former US President Donald Trump, who was charged by the House of Representatives on grounds of incitement to riots, was acquitted.

The US Senate has terminated its impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump. The resolution against Trump, who is facing an impeachment trial for allegedly inciting the Capitol riots, failed to find a two-thirds majority.

The Senate acquitted Trump by 57-43 votes. The Senate trial to decide whether Trump is guilty ended at 2.30 pm Indian time on Sunday.

This is the second time the Senate has acquitted Trump. The House of Representatives had impeached Trump in December 2019 and January 13 this year.
