Dublin: As part of ensuring the prevention of COVID, everyone between the ages of 18 and 49 is given a booster dose of the vaccine. This is in light of the fact that COVID, flu, and respiratory infections are a major threat in the country. 723 people were infected with COVID yesterday and were taken to the hospital. They were all admitted to the ICU in critical condition.
The entire healthcare sector is in crisis due to various reasons. Patients, including those in the emergency department, wait for treatment on trolleys. Meanwhile, it is believed that the HSE’s decision is based on the realisation that if the COVID-19 outbreak worsens, things will not improve.
Appointments can be scheduled via the website.
The HSE stated that people aged 18 to 49 can make an appointment for a second COVID booster dose via the HSE website. Eileen Whelan, National Head of the COVID Vaccination Programme, said that 18- to 49-year-olds will also be given the bivalent vaccine.
People can get the vaccine from central vaccination clinics, and booster doses can be obtained from general practitioners and pharmacies. She claims that a bivalent vaccine provides better protection.
Many people do not take the second booster.
Dr. Colm Henry, Chief Clinical Officer at HSE, stated
77% of people took the first booster. However, as the threat of COVID decreased, people stopped taking it. Booster doses can prevent infections and serious conditions, he said.
Children aged six months to four years can also receive the vaccine.
It has also been decided to give the first COVID vaccine to children between the ages of six months and four years. This is following the advice of the National Immunization Advisory Committee (NIAC). The statutory instrument and action plans for this are being prepared.
According to the HSE, children aged five to eleven are given a bivalent booster dose. Several steps need to be completed before vaccines for young children can be started. Children aged 5–11 who are less immunocompromised are also given a booster dose. That too is for bivalent vaccines.
