Hollywood acclaimed actress Angelina Jolie, resigns as UN Refugee Agency envoy after 21 years

Angelina Jolie, a Hollywood actress and a well-known humanitarian, has resigned from her post as special envoy for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Jolie, who has visited numerous war-torn nations, is leaving the organisation after more than two decades.

In a surprise move, she stated in a joint statement on Friday that she was “moving on” from her post “to engage on a broader range of humanitarian and human rights issues.”

“I will continue to do all in my power to help refugees and other displaced people in the years to come,” Angelina Jolie was quoted as saying in the joint statement, adding that she thought it was time to “work differently” by directly interacting with refugees and local groups. Reports AP.

Jolie joined UNHCR in 2001 and was appointed a special envoy in 2012.

Angelina has visited numerous war-torn nations with disputed boundaries throughout the years. She visited Yemen and Ukraine this year, where she met refugees.
