In Ireland, a 60 percent salary benefit scheme is coming to those who lose their jobs

DUBLIN: The government is launching a new pay-related benefit scheme to cushion the income shock a worker in Ireland faces if they suddenly lose their job.

People who have been in insurable employment for at least five years are eligible for up to 60% of their pre-tax gross earnings or a maximum of €450 per week, whichever is lower.

The benefit will be set at 50% of pre-gross earnings for people with insurable employment between two and five years, with a weekly maximum payment of €300.

The benefit is available for a period of up to six months. Unemployed people are included in the regular Jobseeker’s Benefit (from €208) if they do not find a job.

Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys said preliminary discussions have begun to implement the plan.
