India Secures 1-0 Victory Over Kuwait in 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

In a thrilling second-round qualifier match held in Kuwait City on Thursday, India emerged victorious with a late goal from Manvir Singh, defeating Kuwait 1-0 at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium. The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Manvir, capitalising on a precise cross from Lallianzuala Chhangte, expertly netted a left-footed shot.

The intensity of the game heightened in added time when Kuwait’s Faisal Alharbi received his second yellow card, leading to his expulsion for a high boot challenge on Chhangte, leaving the hosts with 10 men.

Next up for India is a crucial encounter against Asian champion Qatar on November 21 in Bhubaneswar. Placed in Group A alongside Qatar, Kuwait, and Afghanistan, India aims to secure a spot in the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The significance of this victory extends beyond the World Cup, as the top two teams from each group will also earn qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. Despite being ranked 106th globally, the Blue Tigers are determined to make history by advancing to the third round of the AFC’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Notably, India had previously triumphed over Kuwait (149th) in the SAFF Championships final in July, winning on a penalty shootout.
