The influx of civil, mechanical and electrical engineers from abroad began in December 2019 with the Ministry of Labor granting concessions on work permits for foreign workers in countries including India with engineering expertise.
More concessions were made last month for mechanical and electrical engineers.
While 6800 people got visas from India, 2188 people from Brazil and 1347 Pakistanis got visas in the same category.
Most of these work permit holders have received internships during their stay-back period after studying in Ireland. But there are also hundreds who have come directly from India.
Engineers Ireland, an association of engineers in the country, is preparing to help the government by organizing a special seminar in the coming weeks to find more skilled engineers from countries including India.
Ireland is now open to all categories of engineers who want to find direct opportunities in addition to those coming to Ireland to study from India. And more companies are organizing recruitment in the coming months in search of skilled foreign workers.
