Ireland TD said that the overcrowding and traffic congestion on the Athlone is similar to Indian Railways

Athlone: Denis Naughten, TD points Indian railway stations to explain Ireland’s poor rail service, which is plagued by overcrowding and congestion. The reference to congestion on Indian trains came as Transport Minister Eamon Ryan cited the Galway region’s neglect. The rail service from Athlone and Ballinasloe to Galway City, according to TD, is similar to that in India.

Galway is experiencing severe traffic congestion. Yet, according to TD, Irish Rail has completely ignored the Galway-Athlone line in its recently announced rail service expansion.

Galway and the West of Ireland need to get their fair share of new trains. Denis Naughten also suggested that morning and evening services between Athlone and Galway be improved.

The Transport Minister responded that there is huge investment potential in Galway, Cork, Waterford, and Limerick. He said that Ceannt Station will be expanded and have double tracks. The minister admitted that the journey from Athenry and Athlone to Galway is a curse.
