Ireland wrapped in cold; Met Éireann issued Status Yellow alert as temperatures could drop to -5 degrees
DUBLIN: Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Low Temperature alert across Ireland. The warning was issued as the temperature in many places is likely to drop to -5 degrees overnight after today’s snowfall.
The warning, which will take effect from 7pm today, will continue till 10am tomorrow.
Following last night’s snowfall, meteorologists advised of extra vigilance around Clifden and the N59 between Maam Cross and Co Galway.
Icy conditions make it difficult to travel through the city and surrounding areas of Waterford, Tramore and some of the roads in nearby South Kilkenny.
Motorists are advised not to travel through the Conor Pass and the Ballaghisheen Pass in Kerry. They are also instructed to avoid Sally Gap and the Wicklow Gap and all higher ground in the county if possible.
AA Roadwatch Deputy Editor, Lauren Beehan, said, the “areas of higher ground in Kerry and Wicklow have been especially affected” by icy conditions.
