Dublin: Ireland’s labour market is poised for significant changes in the coming years, with 75% of employers planning to expand their workforce by 2025, according to a report commissioned by recruitment firm Hays Ireland. The report highlights evolving workplace preferences, with 57% of employees seeking roles that offer remote working options and 75% of employers aiming to maintain hybrid working policies over the next year.
However, there is a divergence of opinion on office presence, as one in five employers believes employees should spend more time in the office. Despite this, the report underscores a continued commitment to flexible work arrangements in most organisations.
Employee sentiments regarding career prospects have declined slightly, with 46% expressing a positive outlook for the next year—a 10% drop compared to previous findings. Nonetheless, job mobility remains strong, with six out of ten employees expecting to change jobs within the next year, surpassing figures from 2023. Additionally, 30% of employees plan to switch roles this year, with the IT sector emerging as the most sought-after field.
The Hays Ireland Salary and Recruitment Trends Guide 2025 reveals that competitive pay and hybrid working arrangements are key motivators driving employees to explore new opportunities. The report also highlights ongoing challenges such as skills shortages, which continue to impact the Irish labour market despite uncertainties in the global economy and trade.
