According to The News International, Pakistan Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has stated that his country is willing to buy fuel from Russia at the same price as neighbouring India.
During an official visit to the United States, Ishaq Dar, the country’s recently appointed finance minister, made these statements.
During an interview with the media, the minister also stated that the West will have no issue purchasing the reduced fuel owing to the hardship caused by Pakistan’s terrible floods.
The News quoted Ishaq Dar as saying: “I had 58 meetings with the heads of international financial institutions, the US, Saudi Arabia, and other countries’ authorities during my 4-day stay in Washington.
The Pakistan finance minister stated that the United Nations Development Programme, Asian Development Bank, and World Bank officials submitted a joint report during a roundtable session to study floods in Pakistan.
“Floods caused damage in Pakistan of USD 32.40 billion. Pakistan would require more than 16 billion USD for restoration work. ” According to the report, Pakistan’s minister said.
According to a media source, Pakistan is on the verge of a food catastrophe since wheat output in the forthcoming Rabi season is likely to fall due to poor profit margins, which is prompting farmers to hunt for alternative crops.
Pakistan, which has been severely devastated by historic floods across the country, is now preparing to purchase wheat from sanction-hit Russia amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. “The two technical sides are already discussing it.” We want to get wheat from Russia, “in an interview with TASS, Pakistani Ambassador to Moscow Shafqat Ali Khan stated.”
The Pakistani envoy stated that in the midst of the food crisis, they saw Russia as a long-term and solid partner in terms of food deliveries. Russia has emerged as a new supplier for us; previously, we relied on a variety of other countries. “When it comes to food supply, we see Russia as a long-term, dependable partner,” he stated.
Notably, these discussions on wheat procurement and gasoline came amid a diplomatic squabble over US Vice President Joe Biden’s statement on Pakistan.
