Italy to ban smoking in open bars and bus stops

Rome: Italy will soon ban smoking in outdoor bar areas and at bus stops, reports stated.

According to the contents of the draft bill released by government sources, the Health Ministry’s proposed anti-smoking campaign will reportedly ban e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and regular cigarettes in some areas.

In addition to bar outdoor areas, there are indications that the ban will be extended to parks where pregnant women and children are present.

Health Minister Orazio Schillaci’s moves to control smoking and drinking in the country have come under fire from members of his own right-wing government.

“As a doctor and as a minister, I reiterate that smoking is harmful, so he will go ahead with his cause,” he said.
