Mary McDonald says, she has the ability to form a government

Dublin: Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald says she will hold talks with all political parties about forming a government after the next general election.

Try to form a government without Fianna Fail and Fine Gael because they can’t agree on the fundamentals. That, according to Mary Lou McDonald, is the best option right now. This response of the party leader came in the context of the release of the Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks opinion poll, which proves that Sinn Féin is ahead of these two parties.

Make an effort to win every seat. However, following the election results, the government will be formed after discussions with everyone. That is democracy in action. The Sinn Fein president stated that she is capable of doing so.

However, McDonald added that there were no political foregone conclusions in the election. McDonald also invited Marc MacSharry, who recently left Fianna Fail, to join Sinn Féin. Mary informed him that he has yet to approach the party about this. Sinn Fein is a growing political party. They pointed out that Chris Andrews left the party in 2012 and joined Sinn Fein.

Northern Ireland needs a coalition government.

If the executive is not restored in Northern Ireland, Mary McDonald reiterated that power should be shared between Dublin and London. If the DUP continues to boycott the Assembly, the Sinn Féin leader said that a partnership should be formed between the British and Irish governments. Mary claimed that the Unionists’ victory in Northern Ireland would not be repeated and that Nationalist-Republican leader Michael O’Neill would be elected First Minister.

Sinn Féin’s support has dropped three points to 34%, but the party remains in the lead. Fine Gael received 21% of the vote, while Fianna Fail received 17%. However, the number of people in both parties has not decreased.

Since the 2020 general election, Sinn Fein has been gaining popular support. The first-preference party received 22.3% of the vote in this election. The party has strong youth support.
