Night flights from Dublin Airport are restricted

Dublin: Following the intervention of Fine Gael County Council, restrictions are being imposed on night flights from Dublin Airport. The council intervened following a complaint that planning permission was being violated at night on the newly opened North Runway. There are fears that this restriction will disrupt travel plans not only for the airport but for the entire country of Ireland.

The North Runway opened in August of last year. There was a flood of complaints from local residents. Following this, the council sent a letter requesting that the nighttime schedules be limited. There was a requirement that there should not be more than 65 between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. But with the arrival of the airport’s summer schedule, the council said the limit would be breached.

The DAA did not heed the complaints of the residents of this area regarding the noise problem. The council also stated that the complaints about causing health problems for residents had not been resolved.

DA requires time to resolve the issue.

The airport authority has been given six weeks to resolve the issue by the council. But the DAA says that this time limit is very short. The authorities also state that compliance with these conditions will take at least six months. If the restriction remains in place, the company’s CEO, Kenny Jacobs, has stated that people’s summer travel plans will be completely ruined. Airlines’ cargo operations will also be disrupted. He emphasises that passengers will not benefit from the new runway, and they will not be able to provide even the same number of services in the summer.

Would cause unnecessary stress

Aidan Sweeney, Head of Enterprise and Regulatory Affairs at IBEC, said the move to impose conditions on Dublin Airport would cause unnecessary stress. He said the restrictions on night flights come at a critical time for Dublin to act as Ireland’s global gateway.
