HSE indicates Ireland is surviving the tough times of COVID pandemic; no deaths, 437 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed yesterday

DUBLIN: HSE CEO Paul Reid told the Oireachtas health committee that recent reports indicate that Ireland is coming out of a very challenging period. However, he reminds everyone that no one is completely safe.

Mr. Reid urges the public to follow the public health guidelines and stay with the government in the coming weeks.

No new deaths were confirmed in Ireland yesterday. The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has confirmed 437 new cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

The total number of confirmed cases in the country now stands at 223,651 and the death toll remains at 4,422.

Of the cases confirmed yesterday:

● 216 are men and 218 are women

● 71% are under 45 years of age

● The median age is 34 years old

● 184 cases were confirmed in Dublin, 31 in Limerick, 26 in Donegal, 20 in Galway, 18 in Offaly and the remaining 158 cases are spread across all other counties

A total of 418 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised, with 103 in ICU.

The 14-day infection rate in Ireland has now dropped to 172.3 per lakh.

5,13,322 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Ireland

As of March 5, 5,13,322 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Ireland. Of these, 3,63,601 are the first doses and 1,49,721 are the second. Paul Reid says the HSE will continue to increase its capacity to deliver 250,000 vaccines a week.

There are thirty – seven approved HSE immunization centers in Ireland. The HSE CEO also said that COVID-19 vaccination training has been imparted to 9,702 health care professionals.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer said that a latest research carried out by Amárach shows compliance with key public health measures remain very high. The survey found that 93% of people wash their hands frequently, 95% use hand sanitiser, and 93% maintain social-distance while in a queue.
