DUBLIN: Hundreds of people, including those who have already gone to India, will have to unexpectedly move to hotel quarantine as they have been added to the mandatory hotel quarantine list along with those arriving in Ireland after traveling to more countries, including Qatar.
Twenty-six additional countries have been added to the list of high-risk countries, including Qatar and Oman. With this, a total of 58 countries have been included in the list of high-risk countries.
Those arriving in Ireland after 4 am on Tuesday, April 6, will be subjected to mandatory hotel quarantine.
The government made the new decision based on the recommendation of the Travel Expert Advisory Group to the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
As the list of countries grows, the number of mandatory hotel quarantine passengers is expected to increase significantly in the coming days. Earlier, 33 countries were listed in “category two.”
Category 2 includes countries where corona virus variants are prevalent and COVID-19 cases are more than 500 per 100,000.
Failure to comply with quarantine rules could result in passengers being fined €2,000 or imprisoned for up to a month.
