People expressed privacy concerns over Digital Covid Certificates

DUBLIN: A number of people have voiced privacy concerns about the subsequent use of their Digital Covid Certificates after receiving them in envelopes from Revenue.

People who received their DCC by post inquired why it arrived in envelopes from Revenue.

Responding to public concerns, the Department of Health said: “Implementation of the EU Digital Covid Certificate cuts across a number of Government departments and agencies, many of whom are involved in related COVID-19 projects, policy and legislative developments which connect with the implementation of the Certificate.”

‘Helpline’ becomes the ‘complaint line’

Complaints regarding the helpline set up for people with queries about their DCC or who are applying for a Recovery Certificate continue.

There have been several complaints about the helpline not giving adequate information, being put on hold for hours, and being disconnected before their call is answered.

The Department of Health has admitted that it underestimated the demand for the helpline. It said it received 54,500 calls on Monday and Tuesday last week, with just 5,374 of them being answered. The helpline currently has 90 agents.
