Real Irish Christmas tree sales are on a roller-coaster ride

The real Irish Christmas tree sales are soaring during the Covid-19 lockdown compared to the previous year.

The all-Ireland organisation of Christmas tree farmers, the Irish Christmas Tree Growers are preparing for their busiest period of the year with the 2020 harvest well underway.

Martin Kelleher, Chair of the Irish Christmas Tree Growers, said the increased demand shows the excitement of Irish people to start the 2020 Christmas festivities earlier.

There is 50 per cent increase in the number of trees sold and ordered for collection or delivery.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions majority of the customers are driven to pre-oder their real Christmas tree.

He said in 2020 the orders came early at the end October while the year before the online-sale in his farm didn’t start until the end of November.

Mr Kelleher said that Ireland’s maritime climate provides the ideal conditions for growing quality Christmas trees.

He added that as the Christmas tree growers sustainability is the cornerstone of their work. A new crop is planted after the harvest every year. It takes almost 9 years for a Christmas tree to grow up to 2 metre.
