Under the new microgeneration support scheme, people will be able to install solar panels on the roofs of their homes to generate electricity and supply surplus electricity to the power grid. Additional electricity will also be reasonably priced.

The government aims to generate 70 per cent of the power in the power grid by 2030 to transform the country into a net zero carbon economy.

With this, people will be able to generate enough electricity for their homes and earn an income from it. Minister Ryan said those interested in being part of the project should contact the department.

Micro generators are initially targeted at generating enough electricity for homes. It will then be possible to supply additional power to the grid.

However, their properties must meet the low energy efficiency requirements in accordance with the BER rating. In addition, homes will sometimes need to be renovated to qualify for the project.

The project will be submitted to the government for approval after the draft is submitted to the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications by February 17.

Solar Strategy

The main aim of the government is to implement the project by utilizing the potential of solar energy. “This is in line with the EU’s Clean Energy Package and everyone can rely on it,” he said.

The government is also exploring the possibility of including micro-solar, wind, hydropower and combined heat and power (CHP) as part of the project.
