Brussels: The European Union will take harsh measures against countries that refuse to cooperate in the fight against illegal immigration to Europe. If non-cooperation in migration matters continues, the EU ministers said, action will be taken by limiting the number of visas granted to the countries in question, so it is the responsibility of the countries in question to accept people from the EU when they are deported to their home countries.
“There are figures that show irregular arrivals of migrants are increasing… “The refusal of asylum seekers to enter Europe is a critical issue,” Sweden’s migration minister, Maria Malmar Stenergard, remarked.
Governments ordered the repatriation of 340,500 people from European countries in 2021, but only 21% of these were carried out, according to Eurostat data.
The decision of the European Commission…
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, also stated that those who do not qualify for asylum must be returned.
They proposed a “pilot project” in the first half of this year to speed up screening procedures at the EU’s external borders, a step that would speed up the return of those ineligible for asylum.
Ursula von der Leyen stated that Brussels wants to make agreements with countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Nigeria to “stop the departures of migrants” and “improve the income of such countries.”
Frontex, the European Union’s border agency, stated that the 330,000 “irregular entries” recorded in 2022 would be the highest since 2016.
