Weather advisory for rain and thunderstorms across Ireland; Homes, roads and hospitals in London flooded following heavy rains

DUBLIN: Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for thunderstorms and rain till Thursday morning.

A Status Yellow weather warning was in effect until 5 am today.

Thunderstorms and heavy rains were predicted for the eastern part of the country yesterday evening and night.

Met Éireann has warned that heavy showers and thunderstorms will become widespread again on Wednesday.

Heavy downpours will make driving conditions dangerous and may cause spot flooding.

Heavy flooding in London

Homes, roads and underground stations in the south of England were flooded following heavy rains. Two hospitals in the city have asked people to avoid visiting because of the danger.

Six flood warnings were issued for the southeast of the nation yesterday, while 19 flood alerts were issued across England and Wales.

Residents in northeast London had to create makeshift flood defences for their homes using buckets, brooms, and wooden boards.

All scheduled surgeries and outpatient appointments at Whipps Cross Hospital in east London were cancelled.

“Having been born and raised in London, I have never seen anything quite like it. It stands out as the worst I’ve experienced personally … totally shut down the whole road with buses stood broken down in the water,” a Londoner said.

The Belgian city of Dinant is facing its worst flooding in decades, followed by two hours of torrential downpours.
