Brussels: Wipro is creating history by allowing over 30,000 employees in Europe to join the union. Wipro is the first Indian company to take such a step. The company and employee representatives agreed to form the European Works Council (EWC).
The company said it negotiated the deal with employee representatives from 13 countries, including the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, France, Sweden, and Finland.
In 2019, Wipro employees demanded permission to form a union. In Europe, it is a legal requirement to respond to this request within three years.
“This is a step toward adopting European labour standards,” said Deepak Parija, Senior Vice President and CRO, Europe, Wipro.
The company spent Rs 136 crore in the July-September quarter of FY 2022–23 to improve operations in Europe.
