Yellow alert issued for Ireland as temperatures could reach 32C

DUBLIN: Met Éireann has forecast temperatures in Dublin to reach 32C today, and a yellow alert has been issue. A status yellow high temperature warning is in place across the country today and for eastern parts of the country on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dublin’s Phoenix Park experienced scorching heat on Sunday, recording the highest temperature of the year at 29.3 degrees Celsius.

Weather stations at Shannon in Co Clare and Casement Aerodrome in Dublin also recorded temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius. Mullingar in Westmeath, Oak Park in Carlow, Mountdillon in Roscommon, Ballyhaise in Cavan and Dunsany in Meath all recorded temperatures of 26C.

The Met Office said the North Midlands, North Leinster and East Connacht could also experience scorching heat today. The temperature is likely to touch 32 degrees at some places.

The temperature will be 28 degrees Celsius in the north coast and 26 degrees in the south due to southerly winds. Met Éireann said there is a chance of fog on the west coast.

The night temperature is forecast to be between 15 and 20 degrees. Temperatures in Dublin and Belfast may not drop below 20C, so people may find it difficult to sleep, the Met Office warned.

However the forecaster said the rain and cold are expected to return by Tuesday.

The highest temperature recorded in Ireland in the 21st century was 32.3C in Elphin, Roscommon in 2006. Met Éireann said the temperature is unlikely to reach that high today.
