Dublin: Gardaí arrested 19 people following an anti-immigrant protest in Dublin that escalated into violence, blocking roads and leading to riots. The demonstration, which saw a crowd of approximately 500 people, caused significant traffic disruptions as protesters marched towards O’Connell Bridge.
The protesters, carrying Irish tricolours and banners with slogans such as “You’ll Never Beat the Irish,” marched down O’Connell Street towards Leinster House. However, they were stopped by Gardaí before reaching the gates of Parliament. The demonstrators voiced concerns over immigration and Ireland’s ongoing housing crisis.
Tensions rose further as anti-racism activists gathered on Grafton Street, chanting slogans in opposition to the protest. Over 100 anti-racism demonstrators, stationed at the junction of Dawson Street and Molesworth Street, shouted slogans mocking the far-right protesters. As the two opposing groups converged back towards O’Connell Street, Gardaí formed a human barrier to prevent physical confrontations.
Peacekeepers and law enforcement were deployed across multiple locations in the city centre, maintaining a heavy presence late into the evening to prevent further unrest.
