Amazon plans three new data centres in Mulhuddart north Dublin
Dublin: Amazon is planning three new renewable diesel data centres in Mulhuddart, north Dublin.
Universal Developers has submitted the project to Fine Gael County Council on behalf of Amazon Web Services. Permission has been sought for three new 73-megawatt data centres on the Amazon campus. The facilities will be built on 65 acres of land along Cruiserath Road. The application’s final decision will be made next month.

A data centre is already up running. Two are currently under construction. The three centres will require 219.7 MW of power. According to the project’s Environmental Impact Statement, 6,07,523 tonnes of carbon dioxide will be produced annually. Between 2011 and 2020, Amazon invested 4.4 billion euros in Ireland. The project has provided employment for 8700 people. The construction of the centres employs 400 people. When these are operational, 50 more people will be hired.
Objection can be reported till 30th.
They have until January 30 to submit objections to the plan. Critics claim that the data centres will generate massive carbon emissions, accounting for one percent of Ireland’s total greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the EIS, Amazon’s three wind farm projects in Galway, Cork, and Donegal generate 229 MW of renewable energy per year. Carbon emissions will be reduced by 366,000 tonnes. EIS also states that Amazon has become the country’s largest buyer of renewable energy.
