It’s time for the solar-roof revolution; states Eamon Ryan
DUBLIN – The government is announcing a number of incentives to encourage families to switch to solar energy. As part of this, the VAT on solar panels will be completely waived. Solar customers will save over 1,000 euros as a result of this. Solar panel installation costs will be reduced from 9,000 euros to 8,000 euros.
In this regard, the EC VAT Directive was recently amended. This change will be enacted as part of the Spring Finance Bill. Solar households will also be eligible for a SEAI solar grant of up to €2,400, lowering average home solar installation costs to €5,600.
It is regarded as a significant step forward in Ireland’s transition to renewable energy. The concessions are part of an on-target retrofitting programme and micro-generation scheme that will allow households to sell excess solar power to the grid. Solar panels are installed in 50,000 homes in Ireland.
Eamon Ryan, Green Party Leader and Environment and Climate Minister, stated that the government’s goal is to make renewable energy affordable to the public. The minister also stated that the new move will reduce the repayment period for consumers from seven to 6.2 years.
The minister also informed that the government has a plan to install solar panels in all schools by 2025. It will be launched during the summer vacation. The government intends to build 5 GW of solar power capacity by 2025 and 8 GW by 2030. Only 1 GW is sufficient to power 7,50,000 homes. It’s time for the solar-roof revolution. The minister also stated that the government will assist those who switch to low-cost solar energy.
