Leo Varadkar Won’t Reprimand Fine Gael Senators for Skipping Referendum Votes to Attend Rugby Match

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has indicated that he won’t reprimand two Fine Gael Senators who missed voting in referendums to attend the Ireland vs. England rugby match. Varadkar stated that they’re responsible adults and he won’t dictate their weekends, suggesting their trip may have been planned before the polling date. While he acknowledges missing votes occasionally for work, he emphasises the importance of participation in decision-making.

Regarding his visit to Boston, Varadkar expressed gratitude to America for supporting Ukraine and urged continued solidarity against dictators like Putin. He also advocated for US funding for Ukraine, similar to the EU’s efforts. On the Gaza-Israel conflict, he emphasised the need for a ceasefire and called for American involvement in peace efforts.

During his Boston visit, Varadkar toured Output Sports, an Irish sports data company, and visited Fenway Park, where he was presented with a Red Sox jersey and met with Irish officials. He joked about photo editing amidst a light-hearted moment, referencing a recent controversy. Later, he spoke at an Ireland Funds Young Leaders event, reflecting on Ireland’s global future and celebrating the accomplishments of young diaspora leaders, particularly in the US.
