Jack Chambers, to be appointed as Ireland’s New Finance Minister

Dublin: Minister of State for Transport Jack Chambers, 33, is set to become Ireland’s new finance minister. This appointment comes following the government’s nomination of Fianna Fáil’s Micheál McGrath as Ireland’s European Commissioner. Chambers, a Dublin West TD, will assume his new role today.

Chambers was elected to Parliament in 2016 and served as Government Chief Whip from 2020 to 2022. He has earned widespread acclaim within the party for his exceptional performance in local election campaigns and was promoted to deputy leader. His tenure as Minister of State was marked by notable measures implemented by the Transport Department to reduce speed limits on the country’s roads.

The Deputy Prime Minister praised Chambers as a highly capable, intelligent, and efficient political leader. “There is no doubt that he will work effectively and make a significant contribution, especially in the context of the upcoming budget,” he said.

Outgoing Finance Minister Micheál McGrath, who is transitioning to his new role as European Commissioner, expressed confidence in Chambers. “I am leaving the finance department when the economy is in good shape. Chambers is a regular attendee at many Indian community events in Ireland, which underscores his engagement with diverse communities,” McGrath noted, congratulating his successor.
