Husband Charged in Murder of Indian Woman in Cork; Trial Set for 24th

Cork: The trial of Regin Parithappara Rajan (40), accused of murdering his wife, Deepa Dinamani (38), will begin in March at the Central Criminal Court in Cork. The proceedings, expected to last approximately three weeks, will be held at Anglesea Street Court.

Case Background

Deepa Dinamani, a Palakkad native and senior manager in Fund Services at a company in Cork’s Airport Business Park, was found murdered in her home at Cardinal Court, Wilton, on July 14, 2023. The tragic incident occurred just three months after she moved to Cork for work.

Authorities launched an investigation when Deepa failed to pick up her five-year-old son, Reyansh, from a friend’s house. Upon entering her residence, she was found murdered in her bedroom.

Investigation and Trial Proceedings

Inspector Jason Lynch of Anglesea Street Garda Station described the case as highly complex, involving an international investigation, forensic analysis, and the review of thousands of pages of digital evidence. The accused, Regin Rajan, has not responded to the murder charge.

Many key witnesses are located in India, raising concerns about their ability to testify in person. The prosecution is exploring the possibility of virtual testimony if necessary.

Defense lawyer Paula McCarthy informed Judge Paul McDermott that Deepa’s phone is still under examination, indicating that further digital evidence may emerge.

Legal Proceedings and Family Support

The first court hearing took place on July 10, 2023, where evidence was presented regarding Regin Rajan’s arrest and the charges against him. Deepa’s remains were repatriated to India for cremation, with financial assistance raised through the iDonate platform. She is survived by her young son, Reyansh, her parents, and a brother.
