Former Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar Joins U.S. Public Relations Firm
Dublin: Former Irish Prime Minister and Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar has been appointed as an advisor at Penta Public Relations, a U.S.-based firm with high-profile clients including Microsoft, Google, and JPMorgan. Varadkar is set to assume his new role next month.
There had been speculation that Varadkar might relocate to Dubai for work, but recent reports indicate that he has abandoned those plans in favour of new opportunities. He is also expected to take on additional part-time roles in the near future.
Varadkar’s Role at Penta
Penta acquired Hume Brophy, an Irish public relations firm co-founded by John Hume’s son and Dublin businessman Eoin Brophy, in 2023. The company has now confirmed Varadkar’s appointment to its advisory board, where he will collaborate with teams and clients across Penta’s global markets.
With its headquarters in Washington, D.C., Penta operates in North America, Europe, and Asia, employing 350 professionals worldwide, including 20 staff members in Dublin. The firm advises major global corporations, such as OpenAI, Johnson & Johnson, and Bank of America.
Penta’s Chief Executive Matt McDonald expressed enthusiasm about Varadkar’s appointment, stating:
“We are delighted to welcome Leo Varadkar to the team. His experience in government and public leadership will be invaluable to our clients and advisory operations.”
Before accepting the role, Varadkar consulted with Ireland’s Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO), which approved his appointment.
In addition to his new role at Penta, Varadkar has also taken on a part-time position at Harvard Kennedy School’s Centre for Public Leadership, where he will contribute as a teacher and mentor.
Varadkar, who served as Ireland’s Prime Minister from 2017 to 2020 and again from 2022 to 2024, stepped down in April 2024.
