Ireland to Launch New Online Employment Permit Application System – Temporary Downtime Announced
Dublin: Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment has announced details regarding the upcoming launch of a new online employment permit application system, which is set to replace the current Employment Permits Online System (EPOS).
As part of the transition, the existing EPOS platform will be taken offline on April 17, 2025, and will remain unavailable for at least four working days. During this period, no employment permit applications will be accepted. Employers and applicants are therefore advised to submit any completed draft applications before the system goes offline.
It is important to note that draft applications not submitted prior to April 17 cannot be transferred to the new system and will be lost. However, any applications submitted before the cut-off date will be migrated to the new platform once EPOS is decommissioned.
The new online portal, anticipated to go live on April 28, 2025, will replace the employment permit application process that has been in place since 2016. While the exact launch date is yet to be officially confirmed, preparations are underway for a seamless transition.
The new system promises several key enhancements, including:
- Advanced security features to protect applicant data,
- The ability to track application status in real time,
- Built-in tools for data validation, and
- Support for electronic signatures on applications.
Ahead of the launch, employers and foreign workers may be required to complete new registration procedures. Further information on these requirements is expected to be released shortly.
