Naas Named Ireland’s Cleanest Town Again as Galway Becomes Only “Clean” City in Latest IBAL Survey
Dublin: Ireland continues to face high overall litter levels, according to the latest Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey, despite notable progress from the deposit return scheme in reducing plastic bottle and can waste.
Naas retained its title as Ireland’s cleanest town, while Galway emerged as the only city rated “clean”, replacing Waterford. Dublin north inner city ranked lowest, with Cork’s Northside and parts of Limerick also performing poorly.
IBAL spokesperson Conor Horgan acknowledged the deposit scheme’s impact but stressed there has been “little change” in general littering over the past year. He called for stronger government intervention, including transitioning from waste bags to bins, introducing levies on disposable coffee cups, and considering a vape ban.
Horgan emphasised the need for sustained policy efforts to tackle urban litter, particularly in Dublin, where persistent issues highlight a lack of progress.
