AIB Warns of 150% Surge in Sophisticated Scam Texts
Dublin: AIB has reported a 150% increase in scam text messages in July, with fraudsters impersonating bank staff and fabricating fake transactions to deceive customers.
The bank said scammers often avoid requesting login details to appear more credible and may reference real businesses to boost legitimacy.
Mary McHale, AIB’s Head of Financial Crime, urged vigilance: “Wait a sec and double check—never move your money based on unsolicited messages or calls.”
Customers are advised to remain cautious and verify any suspicious communications directly with the bank.
