Brazilian football legend Pele said that he feels “strong, with a lot of hope”

SAO PAULO – Despite medical issues that have put the 82-year-old Brazilian football hero in the hospital with a respiratory infection, Pele said on Saturday that he feels “strong, with a lot of hope.”
Pele, widely considered the greatest footballer of all time, was admitted to the hospital earlier this week for colon cancer treatment.

Doctors treating Pele reported early Saturday that the Brazilian legend’s condition remained “stable,” with no deterioration over the previous day.
Doctors at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital said in a statement that Pele “has had a favourable reaction to therapy with no worsening in the clinical picture in the previous 24 hours.”
Doctors made no mention of prior media claims that the three-time World Cup winner was undergoing end-of-life care.
Pele was brought to the hospital earlier this week for a “re-evaluation” of the chemotherapy he has been receiving since surgery to remove a colon tumour in September of last year.
