Chartered Flights Scheduled to Deport Illegal Immigrants..

Dublin: The Irish government is in the final stages of deporting individuals who have entered the country illegally and has invited tenders for charter flights to facilitate their removal.

The government is seeking chartered flight services equipped with facilities such as catering, ground support, and medical assistance if required. This initiative is expected to commence by the end of this year. So far, the government has issued 860 deportation orders this year, with the Justice Department reporting that over 295 individuals have already been deported. Charter flights are being sought to transport the remaining individuals across the border.

There has also been an increase in the number of people leaving the country voluntarily. The figure has more than doubled from last year’s 97 to 227. However, media reports indicate that hundreds of illegal immigrants continue to arrive in Ireland daily, with a significant number entering via the London-Belfast route. Many of these individuals are from Palestine and require support, with private groups actively preparing to assist them, according to social media.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee stated that charter flights are more suitable for transporting groups of people to the same destination, thereby enhancing An Garda Síochána’s options for deportation. Access to charter flights would provide An Garda Síochána with greater operational flexibility, the minister explained.

Minister McEntee also highlighted a significant increase in the number of people seeking international protection, alongside a rising number of rejected applications. She emphasised the need to enhance mechanisms for transferring individuals out of the country at this stage.
