“COP 28 UN Climate Summit Commences in Dubai with Global Leaders, Pope Francis Cancels Attendance Due to Health Concerns”

COP 28, the UN climate summit, has commenced in Dubai, marking its inauguration with the imminent arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Scheduled for a 13-day duration, the summit will witness prominent world leaders addressing the global climate crisis in the initial three days. Distinguished figures such as Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, British King Charles, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are among the dignitaries set to attend from the outset.

The inaugural session, spanning December 1 and 2, will feature the active participation of world leaders, with Expo City serving as the venue, where UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will receive the distinguished guests. The subsequent session, scheduled for December 9 and 10, will maintain the momentum of global discussions on climate issues. To facilitate diverse events such as conferences, discussions, and exhibitions, the summit has been strategically divided into blue and green zones, each serving a distinct purpose.

Security measures are notably stringent, reflecting the significance of the summit, with the city experiencing heightened restrictions on traffic. Despite the magnitude of this global event, Pope Francis will not be in attendance, as the Vatican has officially announced the cancellation of his planned trip to Dubai. The decision is attributed to the Pope’s ongoing medical treatment for a respiratory illness, and in accordance with medical advice, he has been advised against travel, even though there has been an improvement in his health. This development underscores the importance of health considerations amid the pressing discussions on climate action at COP 28.
