Dogs Trust Urges Caution as Temperatures Rise: Protect Pets from Heatstroke
Dublin: With warm weather returning, Dogs Trust Ireland is urging dog owners to take precautions to prevent heatstroke, a potentially fatal condition. The charity advises walking dogs only during cooler parts of the day, ensuring access to shade and fresh water, and avoiding strenuous exercise in the heat.
Flat-faced breeds, older, overweight, or unwell dogs are especially vulnerable. Owners should watch for symptoms such as heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, or collapse and seek immediate veterinary help if heatstroke is suspected.
