Dublin Sees Major Anti-Immigration Protest Met by Counter-Demonstration
Dublin: Thousands participated in an anti-immigration protest in Dublin on Sunday, marching from the Garden of Remembrance to Custom House Quay. Demonstrators carried Irish flags and signs with slogans such as “Ireland is Full” and “Make Ireland Great Again”.
A counter-demonstration, organised by United Against Racism and supported by trade unions, political parties, and student and LGBTQ+ groups, assembled on Dame Street. Both groups encountered each other near O’Connell Street, prompting tense exchanges, but no major incidents occurred.
Gardaí, including the Public Order and Mounted Support Units, maintained a strong presence and enforced a policing plan that kept the demonstrations peaceful. The events concluded with speeches at both locations, capping a busy weekend of public events for authorities in the capital.
